With every turn of the season comes new clothes, new trends and new stock in the stores, along with a lot of spending if we want to keep up to date. However, every season we’ll see the return of age old items, things that have been in fashion since the 70s and the 80s, even things that were part of the trends a few seasons ago and the same things we bought two years ago are back in the shops at a higher price. It’s a fact that fashion comes back around, whether it’s from last year or thirty years ago and it’s the reason why we should never get rid of things we have in our wardrobe just for being “out of date” or “old”. Take a look at this amazing fleecy coat for example.
FLEECE JACKET: DAMART (via my Grandma's wardrobe) / BLACK CROSS BODY BAG: ZARA (similar) / BLACK SKINNY JEANS : ASOS / HIGH NECK BLACK JUMPER: NEW LOOK / *GUNMETAL ANKLE BOOTS: c/o KURT GEIGER
So these coats are absolutely everywhere at the moment. They’re on Missguided, on ASOS and basically on all of the high street websites you can think of at the moment. Not this one though. This one is from none other than my Grandma’s wardrobe. Yup, you read that right. My 86 year old Grandma, who has a totally 50s-esque wardrobe, has a coat that I have claimed as my own and it is lush (don’t worry she’s allowed me to have it!). Furthermore, it’s from Damart, the brand I always thought of as an “old person’s” with their thermals and things but actually, this coat looks absolutely lovely for day to day wear and I’m now tempted to look in the Damart catalogue for some of my Iceland gear.
It’s just proof that no matter how “old fashioned” things are or where they’re from or what era they represent, they can still look amazing and can still be considered “fashionable”. I’ll wear what I want regardless of whether it’s “in fashion” or not but I do like to keep up with trends and if I like them I will follow them so this is definitely one I can get on board with. My Grandma is officially stylish!
Another absolute bargain piece from this look is the jumper. It’s from New Look and it’s one of those thick, snuggly jumpers with a roll neck that you could just hibernate in because it’s that soft and it was only £10. Yuppp, I’m officially the Queen of Winter Bargains! They had them in a few other colours too when I looked last and I thought at first that the quality would be compromised because of the price but nope! It’s just as lovely as any of my other more expensive jumpers. I haven’t washed it properly yet though so I’m not sure if it’ll stretch but for that price I can deal with a bit of stretching I think! You can find the jumpers on New Look here.
What’s your ultimate bargain? Have you ever held onto something that’s come back around?
