24 Hours In London: Tune Hotels and The Queen's 90th Birthday

After mine and Jess's trip to Paris last week, we decided to have a day in the lovely city of London before heading back up North and although we were only there for 24 hours, we fit so much in and ended up with one or two surprises ourselves! Firstly I'll tell you about where we stayed. Tune Hotels were kind enough to invite us to stay with them for the night and we stayed in their Canary Wharf hotel, a part of London that I'd never been to before and trust me after the journey on the Eurostar and an extremely busy week, we were more than ready to check in!

Tune Hotels Canary Wharf Review

Tune Hotel Canary Wharf is located just a couple of minutes walk away from Canary Wharf tube station and it was surprisingly easy to find considering we'd never been to Canary Wharf before. It's absolutely surrounded by nightlife and restaurants, with a shopping centre a couple of minutes walk away too so it's really conveniently located and although you may think Canary Wharf is really far out of London itself, it made no difference thanks to the hotel being so close to the tube station. 

As soon as we walked into the hotel we knew we were going to love it. The decor is clean and futuristic with white walls, comfy seats and a jukebox and the staff were both lovely and really helpful. We were given our key to our room on the first floor and off we went and my oh my the room was just so cool. The room itself was quite small but it was more than big enough to allow us space to move around, get ready and have a good night's sleep. Plus, the nifty little tricks in the room made up for it being small; there are pull out shelves on the walls, instead of a bulky wardrobe there's a little alcove with hangers and the TV is flat to the wall right in front of the bed. 

One of my favourite things about the room was just how cool it was. Call us easy pleased but we had so much fun with the mood lighting, changing the room from pink to blue to green. Told you the room was super futuristic! It has a little panel at the front of the room where you insert your key card and you can control the lighting and air con etc. from there and unlike most rooms where it takes you half an hour to work out how to turn the air con on, it's so easy and efficient! 

As I mentioned as well, we were a bit bedraggled by the time we reached the hotel on the night because of our busy week and Eurostar journey with a million bags so we were hoping against hope that the shower was good and we weren't disappointed. Can you imagine how great a spacious and powerful shower felt after a week of staying in a Paris hotel with a shower so small you couldn't even shut the door and a head that let off more a hot trickle than anything else?! The shower was heaven - I think I could have stayed in there all night! The room amenities were really good too with the big TV, comfy bed, hairdryer, towels and mini toiletries (eeeek! I'm a sucker for a mini bottle of shampoo) and we couldn't have asked for a better night's sleep. There isn't a kettle in the room but the reception has a tea and coffee machine so we just got our hot drinks from there instead!

Overall we loved Tune Hotels and I would 100% stay there again when I'm next in London. The hotel is perfect for those of us who are trying to keep costs down and you can get a conveniently located, clean and comfy hotel for a fraction of the price when you stay with Tune so I now have their website saved in my bookmarks! 

The Queen's 90th Birthday

Anyone who knows me will know that I can hardly be called a royalist (you've probs heard me ranting about the monarchy in a modern society). However, I actually quite like the Royals themselves so when we heard that our stay in London coincided with the Queen's 90th Birthday Celebrations, we couldn't resist going down to Buckingham Palace to see if we could get a glimpse of Trooping the Colour and even the Royal family themselves. The atmosphere in London was phenomenal with huge crowds waving Union Jacks, flags hung from every street and stores celebrating with Queen themed merchandise. When we arrived at Buckingham Palace we thought we would be miles at the back of the crowd but somehow we found ourselves riiiight at the front with a perfect view of the balcony and when the Royals came out to the crowds and everyone cheered, it was such a great feeling. That was the actual Queen. I mean you couldn't miss her in her super sassy neon green suit and she out me to shame as I was about to place a bet on which pastel colour number she'd wear! Not going to lie though, I was more excited about seeing the adorbs Prince George than anyone else because he just melts my heart. I mean, just look at how bloody cute he is! 

The jets flew overhead too and spread Union Jack colours across the sky and everyone wooped and cheered along as the Royals waved and smiled at everyone. We couldn't believe our luck - we'd gone to London to see a show and have a bit of time shopping and we ended up seeing the entire Royal family!

Overall we had such a fab stay in London and Tune Hotels made it even more memorable! Thanks for having us to stay!
