GHD Marine Allure Styler

*GHD MARINE ALLURE STYLER: c/o UNIDAYS

So last week I unboxed my UNiDAYS #StudentBreakSquad box and I literally did a little "ahhhh!" of joy when I discovered the new ghd stylers inside. I mentioned in my unboxing post that my lil devil dog Harry chewed completely through the wire of my beloved rose gold ghds (*sobs*) and although I did get a new plug put on the end, a cheap £1 plug doesn't quite look as pretty or work as well as the sturdy ghd one. So, these blue beauties came at precisely the right time and because I love them so much they're the focus of today's post.

So first off, the most obvious attraction of these new ghd stylers is the look. They are simply stunning. The iridescent blues are inspired by the tropical Azores islands and they capture that idyllic, island paradise theme perfectly especially with summer coming up. They come with a matching heat-resistant bag, something which I didn't get with my rose gold pair, so they'll be so easy to pop in your suitcase for any summer travels you might have coming up. Another thing I noticed straight away is how lightweight they are. Not so much compared with the relatively new rose gold stylers, but for people still using the quite heavy, classic ghd style straighteners, you'll definitely feel a difference!

Not only does the styler look amazing, it's also so efficient. It heats up within seconds, beeping when it reaches optimum temperature but one of my favourite things about these is that they automatically switch off after 30 minutes. I don't know about anyone else but whenever I've just left the house after using my straighteners and I've gotten to my car I suddenly think "*gasp*! Did I turn my straighteners off?!" and I panic so much that I sometimes even go back to double check, even though I know I turned them off. This feature makes the stylers so much safer, especially when teamed with the heat resistant mat. That may sound super boring but no one wants to come home from work to find their house is in ashes because they forgot to turn their straighteners off do they and there have been plenty of instances of this!

Everyone knows how great ghds are at actually straightening your hair so I won't go into too much detail about that but these glide through my wavy hair with ease - they just make it so much easier to get poker straight! What is really great about these though is that thanks to the curved, round shape of them, they double up as curlers. This is especially good for those of us who have shorter hair; my hair has grown quite a lot now but when it was chin length this shape of straightener was a life saver. Traditional curlers are often too thin (they make short hair look like poodle's hair!) or too thick (you can't even get short hair around them once!) and curved straighteners are nice and inbetween. I find starting from the root and angling the straighteners down, twisting slowly down each section creates a really lovely, natural wave as you can see in the photo. I have wavy hair anyway but sometimes it just looks a little bit bushy so I just use these on the top sections of my hair to make it look a bit less bedhead and a bit more beach babe. Finish off with some salt spray on your roots, scruff it up a bit with your fingertips and you're good to go!

Overall, the ghd allure stylers have been a godsend for me. I use them almost daily, whether it's to sort my fringe out or to completely style my hair - they're definitely going to get used a lot.

  5. think, as an artist, part of your job is being aware of what's going on around you and not selling out and not following the trend, which I'm totally against.
