The Dream Honeymoon Destination: Bali

It's wedding season and although I don't plan on getting married any time soon, that doesn't mean that I don't occasionally day dream about where my dream honeymoon destination would be. As an avid traveller, I think I would probably get married just to have an excuse to travel somewhere exotic for a honeymoon! Joking....kind of! Anyway I was looking through Flight Centre and their honeymoon holidays for a bit of travel inspiration and there was one place that really caught my eye....Bali. It's somewhere I've always wanted to visit. It's a place that looks right up my street, a perfect mixture of paradise and adventure with an amazing culture to learn about and experience. It's safe to say Bali is my dream honeymoon destination and here's why.

You'll probably know that I went scuba diving for the first time last year in Egypt as I've spoken about it quite a lot on this blog (most recently in my travel catastrophes post) and it's something that I'd love to do more of. Bali in diving is supposed to be beautiful, with diving day trips to various areas to see different kinds of marine life. You can swim with manta rays, sea turtles and even sharks, something which I have wanted to do since I was a small child. Seriously! I used to be, and still am, obsessed with sharks so swimming with them would be the dream! Most people think of honeymoons as relaxing, chill holidays but that kind of holiday just isn't for me and Karl. Our honeymoon would definitely be action packed and really, swimming under water with the one you love is pretty romantic right?!

Bali is a place full of culture and is absolutely jam-packed full of important, historical temples. I love experiencing and learning about other cultures so I couldn't go to Bali without seeing some of these places. The Bat Cave Temple is an ancient Hindu shrine, full of thousands of bats and it is one of the nine Sad Kahyangan temples on the island, considered a holy place for worship of one of the gods. Tanah Lot is a temple situated just off the coast, featuring another ancient Hindu shrine and if you visit at the right time, you can catch some of the acts of worship or pilgrimages that happen around this one. Obviously these places are simply beautiful but the best thing about going somewhere like Bali is the opportunity to learn about Hindu culture firsthand, learning to appreciate the different ways people live around the world - an invaluable experience.

Karl and I are avid animal lovers so of course our honeymoon would have to feature some wildlife spotting, I'm sure you'll have heard of the Ubud Monkey Forest where you can meet the monkeys living there whilst taking in some of the beautiful forest scenery. Bali is also home to numerous animal sanctuaries that rescue animals such as turtles and cockatoos from illegal slaughter, importation and exportation, something which I really love. I'm sure you've all heard of the bad rep Bali has regarding the slaughter of sea turtles. You can visit these sanctuaries, see the work they do and even donate to help support their cause so you can help make a difference to the lives of abused animals on your honeymoon.

So there you have it - my dream honeymoon! You can check out Flight Centre's honeymoon destinations on their website and check out their Bali hotels - it will give you serious wanderlust! Where is your dream honeymoon destination?
