The Perfect Matte Lip

*MAC RETRO MATTE LIQUID LIP COLOUR: c/o HOUSE OF FRASER

I definitely couldn't live without a good matte lip. It's the lipstick finish I'm immediately drawn to and I just think it's such a wearable finish, complimenting any make up look whether subtle or statement. Plus, when teamed with a cat eye flick like in this make up look, it adds such a classic, vintage feel and I'm not lying when I say around 70% of my lipsticks have a matte finish. After buying the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks in New York, I knew I had to try MAC's own liquid lip and it's safe to say I have not been disappointed.

I am partial to a good red lippy and in traditional blogger style, most of my matte lipsticks are nude or light pink so I decided to add the shade Feels So Grand into my collection. As you can see, the shade is a bright, bright red, perfect for day and night time. I personally love reds like this as I think darker shades can make me look a little bit like a vampire whereas this kind of postbox red actually seems to brighten my entire complexion.

The brush to apply the lipstick is tear drop shaped, meaning it's really easy to apply neatly, something which I can't often say. Seriously, I'm so bad at applying liquid to my lips I've been known to end up with it on my forehead and I'm not even joking. Anyway the thin end makes it really easy to get the right lip shape (without getting it on your forehead) and as it's liquid rather than solid, if you do make a mistake during the application it is easier to correct.

The lasting power of the lipstick is fantastic and that's one of the reasons why matte is my favourite finish. I applied this in the morning and late afternoon I hadn't needed to top up once and it still looked perfect. It doesn't feel heavy or cakey on the lips either as some matte lipsticks can and didn't dry my lips out at all (though I never find matte finishes do on me) so overall I'm over the moon!

The MAC liquid lip colours are available at House of Fraser for £21 but be warned: the lipstick section of House of Fraser will make you want to spend a lot of money - the selection is insane!
