The Bodysuit: From Day To Night

In recent years, bodysuits have firmly earned their places in our wardrobe basics section but I'll admit this is the first one I've ever owned. They're never really something that have crossed my mind to buy when shopping for basics so when New Look challenged me to style the bodysuit in a couple of different ways to show off just how versatile they are and now that I've actually got my hands on one, I'm questioning why it took me so long to jump on the bodysuit bandwagon!

DENIM ZIP A-LINE SKIRT, WHITE MINI BACKPACK, PATENT POINTED BOOTS (old, similar here): all c/o NEW LOOK

The first look I decided to style was an everyday, casual outfit. Of course, the black bodysuit would have looked great with a simple pair of jeans and trainers for a super laid-back casual look but I wanted to feel spring ready and so opted for the denim a-line skirt. The fit of this skirt is fab - it's not the type of a-line that leaves you feeling like a triangle and it's not too short either. It's the perfect fit and length for everyday wear and look fantastic with my favourite pair of ankle boots. Black and denim is always a winner in my eyes as the shades and textures just seem to compliment each other so well and the contrasting bag makes a little bit of a statement against the otherwise dark palette. Team with a messy ponytail and minimal make up and you have the perfect daytime go-to outfit!

One of my main worries about the bodysuit was that it was going to be uncomfortable. I couldn't have been more wrong and it is almost certainly one of the most comfy things I've ever worn. Also, you know when you tuck a t-shirt in skirts or trousers, it gets that little mushroom top and kind of billows over the sides? Yep, you know what I'm talking about! Well, the bodysuit completely eradicates this problem as it's skin tight meaning you don't have to stand in the middle of the street re-arranging your clothes. It's impossible for it to become accidentally untucked!

BLACK STUDDED FRINGE BAG: c/o NEW LOOK / FRINGE HEELS: c/o TOPSHOP / TWO-PIECE: ASOS

My second look with the bodysuit is all about smart dressing. With spring and summer fast approaching, we will all undoubtedly be getting those invites to events that need those smart but dressy but not too dressy outfits and the bodysuit is essential for perfecting these kind of looks when you don't want to wear a dress. The beauty of the bodysuit is its simplicity. Alone, it's not dressy and it's not casual - it's all about what you choose to team it with and the difference in each of these outfits just proves that.

Two pieces are always a great alternative to dresses for smarter events and I love the seventies style pattern on this one. The bodysuit provides the perfect foundation for this blazer and fitted shorts combo, complimenting the seventies print perfectly. I'd wear this for a spring evening out with some friends but it's so versatile, it could fit any smarter occasion! You could even switch out the shorts from some tailored trousers and the heels for some black brogues and you've got your perfect work outfit. The possibilities of a bodysuit really are endless.

  2. I love both outfits! I have one bodysuit but it's quite a low v-neck and I never wear it... Should probably invest in a normal neckline one! I think they're really comfy!

  13. I've never really thought about buying body suits either although I'm sure they're so much easier to wear with high waisted skirts/ trousers than something you've got to tuck in! Adore the skirt in the first outfit it's the perfect style as length and I love the pattern in the second one!

  18. I love your night outfit, it's so cool and chic! I've been eyeing up so many bodysuits (but from Boohoo) but I'm always a bit like I dunnooo cos they seem so impractical, like playsuits. But they are also so pretty? I think they'd look really lovely with boyfriend jeans for both day time and night. You've definitely convinced me that they'd be versatile!
