A sure fire sign that you're "adulting" is that you're getting really into home decor. You actually look forward to going to Ikea or spending your hard earned cash on paint to redecorate. Who'd have thought if?! Over the past two or three years, I've really started to take notice of home decor and I actually think it's really important. After all, you live in your house (obviously) so you need it to reflect you, your personality and your interests as well as being somewhere that you feel comfortable. I always find myself swooning over bedroom decor and although I do like my bedroom decor the way it is now, there are still a few tweaks I'd like to make to get it into a bit more of a theme.
First of all, I'd like a new bed. Now beds are extremely important in my opinion. We all know how much we look forward to retiring to our beds at the end of the day and we all have those days where we just know we're going to want to stay wrapped up in our duvets. Bed is somewhere you go when you're ill, sleepy, stressed or in need of a bit of "Netflix and chill" (and by that, I actually mean Netflix and chill!) and this means it's important that you actually like your bed and feel comfortable in it. Plus, the bed is such a huge feature it's important that it fits in with the general theme of your room or it'll stick out like a sore thumb. I love this one from Bedz R Us. It's one of those beds that I call a "Princess bed" with the fancy ivory detailing and romantic feel, perfect to get your room feeling a little bit more feminine without going over the top. This one is called the Katrina Double Bed and comes in at just £119.99, which is a phenomenal price for a bed like this as I'm sure anyone who has ever decorated will completely understand! I'd love this in my room with a quite plain cream or navy blue bedspread, preferably in stripes. Wouldn't that look so pinterestable? (because that is definitely an adjective now). I currently have a small double bed UK in my room at the minute so would love to brand out and go for a double - I love my 3/4 bed but now I've got two dogs sleeping in there with me it can be a bit of a squeeze!
As for the rest of the decor I've included here, I've gone for a distinctly blue and white them, which is similar to the decor I have in my room at the moment. I think it's a colour scheme that works so beautifully together and makes the room feel oh so relaxed. I would also have some lovely copper accessories mixed in with these like I do in my current room. Copper is a finish that looks lovely and homely and I just love how it looks a bit more toned down than a brassy gold. Anyway, my favourite thing from the above moodboard has got to be the two metal trunks. I've always wanted a set of these for my room but they are a little bit pricey so may have to go on my "to buy when I'm rich" list. I also love the LED initial lamp too - I'm a sucker for initial decorations and have a copper A in my room at the moment so this would look perfect too. I think the key thing with accessories is not to overdo it. I do like a lot of bits and pieces of decor but the trick is to make sure they're all quite minimalistic and small, so that they don't clutter up a bedroom. I find you sleep a lot more soundly when you're rooms neat and tidy than when it's full of things strewn everywhere!
It's easy to spend an absolute fortune when you're redecorating but I think the key thing is to shop around. There are loads of cheap beds, cheap furniture and little bits of bargains in the most unlikely places. You just have to look a little bit harder to find them.
What would you have in your ideal bedroom? What's your dream bed?
