Unconventional Valentine's Day Gift Ideas

It's nearing the end of January and we all know what that means. Yup, February the 14th is looming and for some of us that might be a great excuse to spoil our other half and have a good ol' date day but for the rest of us the thought of the store shelves being filled with the same old sequin covered tat fills us with dread. However, even if you don't have a partner to spend Valentine's Day with, you can always use it as an excuse to show yourself some luuurve and treat yourself to a little something that you normally wouldn't. If you do have someone special to treat, these are a few gift ideas that are a little bit "outside the box" of the normal category of tacky Valentine's Day and are really lovely and budget friendly ways to show someone you put a bit of thought into their gift.

This first one, Dr Vranjes Mini Room Spray, is a little gem available from Amara and is such a lovely alternative to the traditional perfume that usually springs to mind as a Valentine's Day gift. For starters it has the most romantic packaging, coming in a little box with beautiful but simple decor, complete with a charming little bottle, perfect for sitting on the sideboard in your home. I've got mine on the top of my bookshelf in my bedroom and it looks lovely amongst the rest of my decor. The scent is really quite strong too and a couple of sprays can have the room smelling amazing for hours, meaning this little bottle can last for ages! Plus at £15, this cute little gift won't set you back half of what a fancy perfume would.

Beauty related gifts are always a good idea, regardless of whether you're buying for yourself, your other half or a lucky friend. The MAC 9 shadow palette is a must have for any beauty lover. You can get a few different shades in this palette and this one is the Burgundy and the colours are so beautiful and so wearable. There's a mixture of glitter and matte shadows so they can be used for a night out glitzy look or a day time smokey eye so really you can't go wrong with this one! The Show Pure Treatment Oil is a little bit more pricey but it's worth shelling out on as this has become one of my most used hair products. It's a lightweight oil that really adds shine to your hair without weighing it down and despite the fact it comes in at £50, it will last you for years as you only need a tiny, tiny amount each time you use it. Plus just look at that bottle! If that's not worth of being a Valentine's gift I don't know what is.

Now onto some more cutesy style gifts. How frickin' adorable is this Miss Etoile Ceramic Mug with gold hearts, again from Amara? It's no secret that I absolutely love a good ol' mug as it is (seriously, go over to my instagram and you'll see just how many different mugs I own) and this one just takes the biscuit completely as the most "instagrammable" mug ever. And yes, it's 2016 and that is most definitely an adjective. I think what I love most about this mug is that it's not your bog standard, boring shaped mug but it's a little bit unconventional with no handle and the metallic rim. I fully maintain that the better shape your mug, the better your tea or coffee tastes so really this gift is a no brainer for the hot drink lover in your relationship and if they're obsessed with Instagram or Pinterest, they will thank you forever for bestowing such a photo worthy mug on them.

My final unconventional but super duper cute gift idea is a little A4 print or artwork like this one. This is from the extremely talented Jazz Stan Artworks who hand draws all of her absolutely stunning pieces. Her Etsy shop boasts a whole host of designs with quotes like this one from the great Albus Dumbledore, to city landscapes to animal drawings. There is something for everyone amongst her designs and if you put a lot of thought into a meaningful quote or drawing, your other half will be completely smitten that you know exactly what they like and their favourite quote.

Are you a lover or hater of the Valentine's frenzy?

  6. These are such beautiful ideas. I suppose some people are all for the red, heart shaped tat but it's nice to give something long lasting and meaningful :)
