The Double D

SNAKE PRINT ANKLE BOOTS (similar): H&M / DENIM SHIRT, RIPPED LEIGH JEANS: TOPSHOP / MICHAEL KORS JET SET BAG / *STRIPED WATCH: c/o DANIEL WELLINGTON

Double denim is a tricky one to pull off and I'll admit that it's not one that I usually go for. It can be hard to get that balance between the different denims in the outfit, without looking like Britney and Justin in the 90s (c'mon, we all remember that outfit). However double denim can look absolutely fab and is a really great way to keep an everyday, casual outfit looking chic and on-trend, something which I'm aaaaall about and I'm sure you'll all be well aware of that by now!

For me, one of the key things about making double denim work is carefully choosing the shades and the wash of denim. Unless you want to go for a two piece coordinating top and bottom outfit, double denim tends to work a lot better if you choose two different shades of denim. That way it's not just one block of the same colour and material and it's broken up that little bit more, making it a lot easier to wear. I've teamed the bleached denim on the shirt with the dark, indigo distressed denim on the bottom and you can see that the colours just match and really compliment each other and suddenly, double denim doesn't seem that scary at all.

Another key aspect of pulling off double denim is the choice of shoe. I prefer a statement shoe with my double denim, just to inject a little bit of something into the outfit and break it up further so of course I chose my beloved snakeskin boots. I think this type of printed boot looks amazing with denim anyway so it was a natural choice for my look but you could team it with trainers for a sportier look, or even a pair of sleek strappy sandals to add a bit of glam. That's the beauty of outfits like this; denim is so versatile meaning you can dress it up to be what you want it to be.

1. Break it up: choose two different shades and washes of denim so that it isn't one big block.
2. Add a pop of print somewhere: Add a clash in the shoes or the bag to break it up further and take a bit of pressure off the rest of the outfit.
3. Accessorise: the beauty of denim is that it matches just about anything so you can add any of your favourite accessories. I went really bold and even colour coordinated my bag and watch!

What do you think of double denim? I'm a big fan! I'm even starting to feel brave enough to possibly go for the triple denim if I add this beauty of a denim jacket to my wardrobe - what do you think?

  10. Yesss I love this! You pull it off so well. I think double denim is a great trend, so long as it's different colours/washes. Your mention of Britney and Justin brings back all the double denim nightmares of when I was little! x
