My Halloween #ScreamHome

October is drawing to a close and we all know what that means; Halloween is almost upon us. Now I'll admit I spend most of my Halloween night sat in my room with the lights turned off, hiding from Trick or Treaters (I can deal with the first few choruses of "Happy Halloween" but after that...nope.) but I do love it. I love how everyone really gets into the Halloween spirit by dressing up and how happy kids are racing around in a black bin bag clutching a broomstick. Plus, the Youtube make up tutorials from beauty bloggers at this time of year are fricking amazing and are serious works of art. Anyway Ocean Finance challenged me to transform my home into a #ScreamHome and turn it into a real Halloween themed scare fest. I of course decided to go all out with the decorations and enlisted the help of Sophie and Courtney to give the house a haunted feel.

T H E    D E C O R A T I O N S 

The first thing I did was transfrom my living with loads of super cute decorations. Although Halloween is all about the scares, there's no reason that it can't also be adorable, hence the very orange and purple theme I have going on here. Orange and purple are great alternative Halloween colours if you're a bit tired of the same old greens and blacks and I love all of the hanging decorations I picked up from Wilkinsons and the bunting is super cute! Granted it doesn't look that scary during the day when the lighting is nice and bright but when it's dark and there are spider sillhouettes hanging from the ceiling they look a lot scarier. I think a great way to create a spooky atmosphere is to use tealight candles. They cast long shadows over the decorations and give the whole room a real eerie feel. 

It's not Halloween without spiders so I stuck these spider cut outs all over the living room and they are so creepy. I'm petrified of spiders (I can deal with literally any bug or creature except spiders and daddy long legs. It's a no from me) so even these give me the heebie jeebies! The black roses and the skull light add so much to the atmosphere too; they're subtle but so effective.

G E T T I N G    C R E A T I V E 

Halloween obviously means lots of sweet treats. I mean, it's not our fault if we have a few sly dips into the stash of candy meant for the trick or treaters right?! This means it's the perfect time to get creative with your culinary skills and get making some real, traditional Halloween themed nibbles. I made these homemade toffee apples from scratch and they are absolutely delicious and really cheap and easy to make so there'll be plenty left for your Halloween party or as a treat for the Halloweening children! (Recipe here) There are so many other things you could try making like cakes, biscuits and anything else you can come up with! The possibilities are endless.

T H E    F A N C Y    D R E S S 

Obviously a Scream Home isn't complete with a few scary figures haunting it so I enlisted the help of Sophie and Courtney to help me haunt my house. Of course, Sophie being Sophie, she got right into character and made me photograph her "lying dead in front of the fire because a wolf had bitten her" (very strange child). I find that using real make up instead of face paints and Halloween kits makes for a much better look. I simply covered Sophie's face with my highlighter and blended a glitter navy shadow and black shadow around her eyes, while sweeping some black eyeshadow under her cheekbones. Such a quick and easy way to create a vampire or a zombie! Courtney went for the traditional gory Halloween look and used red wax and toilet tissue to create life like wounds on her face. Much more effective and creative than the rubbish stick on wounds you buy for £1!
